Double gold for Solfrid Koanda: Speyer delights King Harald V!
A very special spectacle recently took place in Fjord: the World Weightlifting Championships took place there, and the Norwegian athlete Solfrid Koanda caused a real sensation. The athlete from AV 03 Speyer prevailed in several disciplines and impressively won gold medals in the duel with 272 kg and in the clean and jerk with a strong 152 kg. But that's not all: In the weight class up to 86 kg, she also secured silver in the snatch with 120 kg. This is reported by the Rhine Palatinate.
The moment when King Harald V of Norway watched the competitions was particularly impressive. He was proud of his compatriot's achievements. Frank Hinderberger, department head of AV 03 Speyer, mentioned that Koanda's back problems are the most important thing for her fitness. He is convinced that if Koanda competes in the snatch, she will be hard to beat. This impressive achievement reflects the development of the athlete, who only started lifting weights in 2020.
A remarkable career
Solfrid Eila Amena Koanda, born November 13, 1998 in Oulu, Finland, moved to Norway when she was nine. Her journey to the top of the world hasn't always been a linear one. At first she struggled with self-confidence issues and often trained alone. But a lucky coincidence led her to a CrossFit trainer who quickly recognized her talent in weightlifting. She soon set national records and celebrated her first successes: She took second place at the 2020 Norwegian Championships.
Just a short time later, Koanda competed at the 2021 European Championships in Moscow, where she won a bronze medal. Her path took her to the 2024 Olympic Games, where she became Olympic champion and set new Olympic records in the process. Her achievements do not go unnoticed - in 2025 she was named Athlete of the Year at the Idrettsgallaen. This recognition is the result of the hard work and tireless dedication she shows in training.
A look into the future
Koanda's successes are impressive, and it remains exciting to see what heights she will reach in the future. Her self-confident appearance speaks for itself: even after a stress fracture in her wrist, which set her back in 2022, she found her way back to winning ways. And with every competition she takes part in, she not only proves her endurance, but also her unbroken will.
The AV 03 Speyer club is lucky to have such a talented athlete in its ranks. Koanda is a shining example of what can be achieved with ambition and the right support. The upcoming competitions promise promising challenges for them, and their loyal fans will certainly keep their fingers crossed!
