There are exciting news for all young people who are enthusiastic about music in Germany! Today the tender for the renowned competition “Youth Music 2026” was published. From now on, pupils, trainees, young working people and students can register without musical vocational training. A special feature this year: “Jugend musicia” not only promotes musical skills, but also the encounters among young people. This means that there is real cooperation that goes beyond the mere competitive atmosphere. The competition has produced many talents since 1964 and has given impulses for music life in Germany.

Diverse competitive categories

The competition offers a variety of categories that address both soloists and ensembles:

• Solowertung: Klavier, Harfe, Gesang, Drum-Set (Pop), Gitarre (Pop)
• Ensemblewertung:
  • Kammermusik für Streichinstrumente (2-5 Musizierende)
  • Kammermusik für Blasinstrumente (2-5 Musizierende)
  • Kammermusik für gemischte Ensembles (6-13 Musizierende)
  • Akkordeon-Kammermusik (2-5 Musizierende)
  • Besondere Besetzungen: Neue Musik (bis zu 13 Musizierende)
  • Offene Kammermusik (2-13 Musizierende)
  • Kategorie Jumu open

The “Jumu Open” category in particular is new and will be carried out in several national competitions in 2026. This exciting category aims to promote a unit of improvisation, composition and interpretation. Here the participants can create new perspectives on existing works and experiment with various styles and genres, also in connection with other arts such as word, light and scene.

Relevant dates and competitions

The tender and all the necessary information are on www.jugend-musicia.org/verschreisung.html available for download. However, participants can register for the “Jumu Open” categories by January 15, 2026, which gives them a little more time.

Another highlight is coming up in the coming year: The national competition “Jugend musiziert” will take place from June 5 to 11, 2025 in Wuppertal. Over 1,800 young musicians: will be there in the final and present their talents in front of a general public. There will be numerous public scores in which the participants can show their skills, and outstanding musicians: inside are honored in award winners: internal concerts. The solo evaluation categories such as string instruments, percussion and pop singing can also be selected here.
