Change of leadership at THW Hauenstein: Amschler initiates a new course
On June 20, 2025, there was a change in leadership in the Hauenstein local branch of the Technical Relief Organization (THW). After three and a half years, Alexander Memmer ceremoniously handed over his position as local representative to Christian Amschler. This handover was duly acknowledged in a festive ceremony in the Hauenstein community center. Memmer, who led the local association with great commitment and success during this time, was honored with plenty of applause for his services together with the deputy local representative Kai Spielberger, who is also leaving his position. Marcus Hantsche, the state representative, handed over the appointment certificates to the new responsible persons.
In his speech, Amschler emphasized the importance of teamwork and supporting young talent. A central topic in the speeches was the high administrative burden at the THW, which was presented as a serious obstacle. This must be reduced in order to give the volunteers more time for their crucial tasks, as rheinpfalz.de reports.
The role of THW
The Technical Relief Agency, which has its headquarters in Bonn-Lengsdorf, is the German federal civil and disaster protection organization. It was founded on August 22, 1950 and, as Wikipedia shows, is an unincorporated federal institution under public law. The tasks of the THW range from disaster relief and support during natural events to international operations. The THW works closely with other organizations and institutions and also has its own rapid response units for global challenges.
The THW currently has around 86,117 volunteers, including around 16,370 young helpers who are prepared for their missions through structured training. The organization attaches great importance to ensuring that the helpers receive further training in both basic and specialist training and also offers numerous development opportunities. Another important element is the THW youth, which introduces young people to the tasks and values of the THW, as is shown in detail on ov-hautstein.thw.de.
Specialist advisors in action
An important part of the structure within the THW is the specialist advisor. Maximilian Blank takes on this role in the Hauenstein local association and ensures that the interests of the THW are properly represented in the leadership and coordination structure. He supports operations managers and plays a key role in the preparation of operations. He also ensures the constant exchange of information within the organization and with external partners.
The latest developments at THW Hauenstein show once again how important strong, committed leadership is for the success of voluntary work. The handover of management positions and the focus of future work, such as promoting young talent and teamwork, will be crucial to how the THW can continue to manage its tasks at the local and national level.
