Palatinate Championships in Danger: Together instead of Separate!
Just today the sports world in the region has rearranged itself: At the indoor Palatinate Championships in Pirmasens, Sophie Endler from LAC Pirmasens proved her skills and took second place in the U18 final over 60 meters. She fought for this behind the strong Anabelle Renner from TS Germersheim. The importance of these championships is underlined because the Palatinate and Saarland track and field athletes will be focusing on joint competitions in the future. A decision that was born out of necessity, as the number of participants is declining and the helper situation is tense. As rheinpfalz.de reports, this championship is designed as a pilot event for the new joint championships.
But what does that mean specifically? The rapidly falling number of participants meant that the organizers had to rethink. The cooperation between the two regional associations should offer a solution to allow athletics to flourish again in the region. The aim of joint championships is to attract more athletes and helpers and improve the conditions for competition.
Prominent events in athletics
Another big event on the horizon is the Winter Throwing Championships, which will take place in Halle (Saale) on February 15th and 16th, 2025. The program here includes javelin throw, discus throw and hammer throw – a must for all athletics fans!
