Rodalben relies on the Gräfensteiner Land tourism brand!
The discussion about the future of tourism in Gräfensteiner Land is heating up. As the municipality of Rodalben reports, the local tourism brand will be retained for the time being. The reason for this lies in its participation in the district's new Tourism Service Center (TSC). The local council agrees that the process of establishing the TSC came too late. Michaela Herbort, managing director of the Palatinate Forest Tourism, has recognized this.
A look at the facts: While all other municipalities and the two cities in the district, with the exception of Dahner Felsenland, take part in the TSC, Rodalben remains true to its brand. The municipality records around 40,000 overnight stays per year and does not have the capacity for its own service center, which makes the hesitancy more understandable. Mayor Wolfgang Denzer (SPD) emphasizes that earlier discussions about the future of tourism in the region would have been useful. Despite participating in the TSC, Rodalben will continue to retain individual advertising materials.
Leisure activities and attractiveness of the region
The Gräfensteiner Land, which largely corresponds to the municipality of Rodalben, offers a variety of leisure activities. From hiking, mountain biking and cycling to Nordic walking – the region has something to offer for everyone. The area is known for its picturesque red sandstone formations, streams, lakes and impressive medieval castle ruins. The numerous events and festivals are also very popular. If you would like to find out more about the region, you can find out more at the tourist information office, which is open from Monday to Friday and on certain days at the weekend. There are additional opening hours during the summer months to make planning easier for visitors.
The popular Rodalber rock hiking trail invites hiking enthusiasts to experience nature up close. Anyone interested should immediately report missing markings or obstacles to the Tourist Information. The newly launched Pfalz Card also proves to be a welcome welcome gift for guests.
Historical context and future perspectives
The name “Gräfensteiner Land” has grown historically and goes back to Gräfenstein Castle, which was an exclave of the Margraviate of Baden until the end of the 18th century. This influence has shaped tourism development. The region also offers many attractions, including Gräfenstein Castle and the hiking huts of the Palatinate Forest Association, which serve as rest points for hikers. The landscape is characterized by striking hills such as the Kippkopf and Wartenberg.
Geographically, the Gräfensteiner Land is part of the Palatinate Forest Nature Park, an area that is ideal for recreation close to nature. In view of the upcoming challenges in tourism, especially at a time when overnight stay numbers are stable, it remains to be seen how the cooperation in the TSC will develop. Alexander Frey (FWG) has already expressed concerns about the need for TSC involvement, as the accommodation establishments already have a high occupancy rate, suggesting that Rodalben has a good knack for maintaining its tourism brand.
Overall, the Gräfensteiner Land region is facing exciting challenges and opportunities that could significantly influence the future development of tourism. The investments that have already been made in the past, such as the redesign of the tourist information center and the installation of prominent information signs, are hopefully the first step towards a stronger tourist identity.
