At dusk on October 24th, 2023, a spectacular traffic accident occurred in Eich, on Osthofener Straße, which left hardly anyone untouched. At around 9:50 p.m., the driver of an Opel Zafira lost control of his vehicle and rammed a tree. Fortunately, the driver was uninjured, but the consequences were clearly noticeable. The car, badly damaged, came to a stop a few meters away. It left a trail of destruction at the scene of the accident and destroyed the calm of the residents.
What followed could almost be staged as a crime thriller: the driver left the wreckage and fled the scene of the accident on foot, but not without being observed by attentive witnesses. They immediately called the police, who then knew how to act quickly. The officers were already waiting for the man they were looking for at the owner's address of the Opel. He not only matched the description given by the witnesses, but was also heavily intoxicated. A voluntary breath alcohol test was offered, followed by a blood sample, which confirmed the suspicion of intoxication. An investigation was initiated against him.
Drunk driving is a risk
The dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol are undisputed. According to information from the fine catalog, an accident under the influence of alcohol is not only a criminal offense, but also has far-reaching consequences for drivers. A call for prudence

The danger of residual alcohol, which can impair your ability to drive the next morning, is too often underestimated.
