CVJM SG Sylbach/Pivitsheide celebrates sensational championship title!

The German Indiaca Championships in Worms were a real treat for fans of the sport this year. The CVJM SG Sylbach/Pivitsheide won twice as much. On June 29, 2025, the mixed team in the 40+ age group was crowned champions and brought home the first gold medal in this category. The newly formed team around Stephan Kästner, Marc-Philipp Gessner, Samuel Brockmüller, David Brockmüller, Anja Frerichmann, Ellen Terhorst and Susanne Kothmann not only met their own expectations, but far exceeded them. The minimum goal of reaching the semi-finals was just the start of a fantastic performance.

In the preliminary round, the Cologne team showed their strength by winning in two sets against the teams from TG Eggenstein, TV Leiselheim and TSV Enzweihingen. In the semi-finals they beat FS Amperland 25:18 and 25:21 and made it to the final. Here Indiaca Malterdingen was waiting, which they defeated with a clear 25:14 and 25:20. A game that offered a real spectacle for the spectators and was the best reward for the players after hard training. Now the team is looking forward with enthusiasm to the upcoming German Senior Championships, which will take place on 9/10. May 2026 will take place in Detmold.

An impressive weekend in Worms

The tournament in Worms lasted two days and included both the open classes and the age groups over 40 years old. For men, the CVJM SG Sylbach/Pivitsheide competed in several categories. In the men's tournament, in which ten teams took part, the Cologne team got off to a strong start, but also suffered a few setbacks. After a confident win against Betzdorf, a defeat against CVJM Bindlach followed, which reduced the chances of reaching the semi-finals. But they were also able to prevail in the decisive game for 5th place and finished the men's tournament in a solid 5th place.

The women of the CVJM, however, had it a little more difficult. In a “everyone against everyone” mode and a strong field of participants, they had to play several close games. They showed outstanding performances and even managed to steal a set from the defending champions, but ultimately took 6th place. A strong team that will certainly continue to catch up.

A look into the future

The mixed team, which took 4th place last year, was able to start this year with fresh motivation. Their preparations paid off when they impressed again in the preliminary round. After an opening win against ATV Haltern and the third win against TSG Blankenloch, they qualified for the semi-finals after an exciting preliminary round game against CVJM Betzdorf. Even though they lost here against CVJM Kamen, it was enough to put in a strong performance in the game for third place against TSV Enzweihingen, which they ultimately won.

With these great results in their luggage, the CVJM SG Sylbach/Pivitsheide is heading into the next challenges in good spirits and proving that they can be at the forefront of Indiaca sport. This also strengthens the anticipation for the upcoming championships, where there will certainly be a lot of enthusiasm and exciting games waiting for the fans. A big congratulations to all the players who make this football possible for the CVJM!
