NaheCleanUp in Bad Kreuznach: Together against garbage!

The fifth NaheCleanUp will take place in Bad Kreuznach on Saturday in a week and a half. The aim of this campaign is to clear the banks of the Nahe from rubbish and make the surrounding area a bit cleaner. Organizer Hermann Holste expects a considerable amount of rubbish at this event, as at least one and a half tonnes of rubbish has already been collected in recent years. Antenna KH reports that the focus of the collection will be between the fairground bridge and the Telekom building. So far, not only car tires and mattresses, but also various household goods have been recovered there.

The meeting point for all helpers is the Whitsun meadow at the fairground bridge. All participants will be provided with gloves, grippers and garbage bags so that they are well equipped to actively participate in the environmental project. The Bad Kreuznach building yard ensures that the garbage collected is disposed of properly.

Worldwide cleanup campaign on World Cleanup Day

At the same time, on September 20th, numerous other clean-up activities will take place around the world as part of the World Cleanup Day instead of. Not only is rubbish cleared from streets, beaches and waterways, but the problem of single-use packaging is also highlighted. A BUND analysis from this year shows frightening figures: During waste collection campaigns, 99.6 percent of the packaging collected was disposable products that waste resources and are difficult to recycle. Not only do these single-use packaging contribute to environmental pollution, but they also cause microplastic problems that extend into our food chain.

The solution could lie in an increased switch to reusable packaging and reusable products. The BUND and many consumers are urgently calling for a change to make disposable products less attractive. A reusable requirement in the to-go area is supported by the majority of the population.

Together against waste

To avoid waste, it's not just clean-up campaigns like NaheCleanUp that are important. The Federal Environment Agency draws attention to the need to fundamentally rethink how we use resources. One waste policy goal is to promote the circular economy, which aims to decouple economic growth and waste generation. This includes reducing the harmful effects of waste on the environment and human health.

Waste prevention programs use various adjustments to reduce waste. This includes a focus on critical waste streams such as plastic packaging and food waste. The exchange between different actors plays a crucial role. Another goal of the federal government is to halve food waste by 2030.

One thing is clear: it is up to all of us to protect the environment and reduce our waste. Participating in campaigns like NaheCleanUp is a great opportunity to take action and take a stand against littering.
