It has a population of approximately 23,000 and is made up of three picturesque villages: Mountain Brook Village, Crestline Village and English Village. The latter impresses with its medieval-style architecture. Not to be missed is the Continental Bakery, where you can enjoy culinary delicacies. The Grand Bohemian Mountain Brook Hotel, which hosts an annual Fairy Tale Ball, completes the fairytale picture. The city is also surrounded by the beautiful Birmingham Zoo and Birmingham Botanical Gardens, which are ideal for relaxing walks.

Dismals Canyon – A natural wonder

For nature lovers, Dismals Canyon in Phil Campbell is a real highlight. This private National Natural Landmark spans more than 85 acres and includes breathtaking waterfalls and unique rock formations. It is best known for the bioluminescent “Dismalites,” which become visible during guided night tours. A 1.5-mile hiking trail winds through the area, which is lined with moss-covered sandstone walls and babbling streams. Major attractions along the trail include Rainbow Falls and Secret Falls. The visit is rounded off by a country store with snacks and souvenirs, and there are safe rest areas and signs for orientation for little hikers.

The best months to visit are from late spring to early fall. Visitors should wear comfortable walking shoes and dress in layers to be prepared for various weather conditions. Nearby attractions include Rock Bridge Canyon Equestrian Park and Bear Creek Canoe Run, providing further opportunities for outdoor adventure.

Another worth a visit: Millbrook and Magnolia Springs

Millbrook also has a lot to offer, including Jackson Lake Island, which served as the backdrop for Tim Burton's Big Fish. Here you can visit the fictional town of Specter, go fishing, camping or even watch goats running around freely. Those interested should not miss the planned musical “Peter Pan” at the Millbrook Theater in 2025.

Magnolia Springs boasts giant magnolia trees and the special flair of the Magnolia River, which is home to the only year-round USPS river route in the United States. The Lady in the Bay sculpture at Barber Marina and numerous other unique works of art give the city its own character.
