After a long struggle, something has finally happened in Wattweiler. The barrier post on Kirchhofstrasse, which has been there since September 2023, was intended to curb unauthorized passage in the direction of Hochwaldstrasse and Kugelfanghütte. The residents have fought for this measure for more than five years, and now they hope that the “Thomas Körner bollard”, named after the local mayor, will actually have an effect.
The idea behind the bollard is clear: to ensure better protection from passageways and, above all, to increase safety in the neighborhood. The project received significant support from the local mayor and the local advisory board, who actively supported the installation of the bollard. But will it keep what it promises?
Initial feedback – what do the residents say?
Feedback from residents is mixed, but the general mood is optimistic. “It’s finally a step in the right direction,” says one resident. Many people hope that the bollard will not only result in less traffic, but also more peace on the streets. However, some also criticize that the bollard is only a temporary solution and that further measures are necessary.
Bollards are a well-proven method of traffic regulation. These are not only robust and durable, but also user-friendly and customizable - another plus point that underlines the efficiency of such systems.
Challenges and technical details
But bollards are not only at the center of the discussion in Wattweiler. Problems with polling systems are also discussed in technical communities. Two servers suddenly both showed the status “Active”, which was not in the spirit of the matter. Vikas had tried making manual adjustments using the registry to resolve the issues, but was not consistently successful.
These technical problems highlight how important it is for bollards to function smoothly, be it in traffic protection or in the digital world. It therefore remains to be seen whether the bollard in Wattweiler really ensures more safety or whether adjustments are also necessary here.
