Panzerfaust discovery in Neuruppin: shopping center evacuated!

A normal Saturday morning became an exciting affair for the residents of Neuruppin in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district. A 40-year-old man found a suspected rocket-propelled grenade in a forest, triggering a major police operation. The man, who apparently had a good hand in military matters, decided not to leave the source of danger on site. Instead, he quickly brought the dangerous find - a Soviet training warhead for a bazooka - to the parking lot of an Edeka supermarket and called the police.

When the officers arrived, the man first showed the way to the site. However, it was already clear that action had to be taken quickly. Experts from the Brandenburg State Criminal Police Office (LKA) immediately defined a restricted area. This measure led to the evacuation of the entire shopping center and adjacent residential buildings. A total of 142 people were affected, including numerous customers and supermarket employees who had to abruptly interrupt their shopping. An operation was ordered in which the fire brigade, public order office and rescue service were also on site. To ensure everyone's safety, the lockdown was finally lifted at 12 p.m.

From the discovery site to the police

The situation now raises questions: How did you come up with the idea of transporting a bazooka, even a training device, from the forest to the supermarket? The Neuruppiner had duly notified the authorities, but the police issued an urgent warning: World War ammunition carries dangerous risks and should under no circumstances be touched. This is important to note! Anyone who stumbles upon such finds should secure the area and inform the police immediately instead of spending the time on a “journey of discovery” to Edeka.

The police have now initiated an investigation against the 40-year-old for a violation of the War Weapons Control Act, which has been valid in Germany since 1990. The story could easily come from an action movie, but the man should be thinking about his next trip to the police. The incident is a reminder of how important it is to exercise caution, especially when it comes to discoveries from the past.

A little excursion into the past with colorful stories - the Neuruppiner has certainly unintentionally tested the nerve seat in a completely new way. There is not only a sense of excitement, but also the importance of careful actions when it comes to dealing with potentially dangerous objects. One piece of advice for everyone: If in doubt, call the experts!
