Active in old age: Important events for seniors in Saarbrücken!
In the coming week, Cologne citizens can expect an exciting program full of events that are particularly aimed at seniors. On Monday, June 23rd, a discussion group for retired people will start at 11 a.m. in the Dudweiler culture and reading meeting. Here, interested parties have the opportunity to exchange ideas about a fulfilling everyday life after working life. Participation is completely free, registration is not necessary. Saarbruecken.de reports that this exchange can be particularly valuable for gaining new perspectives and making social contacts.
But that's not all! Just one day later, on Tuesday, June 24th, a lecture about “rip-off scams” will take place in the Burbach cultural and reading meeting. From 5 p.m., experts will unravel the tricks and deceptions that criminals use to specifically target older people. The consumer advice center highlights that overflowing mailboxes and unwanted calls have become a daily challenge for many seniors. The aim of the lecture is to educate participants about common scams such as the grandchild trick and dubious sales pitches, as well as to give tips on how to avoid them.
Family friendly activities
Families are also catered for: On Wednesday, June 25th, the Malstatt culture and reading meeting invites you to a parent-child meeting at 3:30 p.m. Here children can play and discover books while parents can exchange ideas with each other. This event is also free and accessible without registration.
Creative minds and debate enthusiasts will get their money's worth on Thursday, June 26th. From 6 p.m., the city library offers a debate evening on the third floor where current topics can be discussed. If you want to sharpen your argumentation and presentation skills, you will find the perfect platform here - this event is also free and no pre-registration is required.
Digitalization and further training
Another highlight of the week is Digital Day 2025, which will take place on Friday, June 27th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the city library. On the occasion of this nationwide event, visitors can expect exciting activities and informative lectures. Promoting digital skills is particularly important for older people in order to actively participate in society. The Federal Ministry for Senior Citizens supports access to digital technologies through various programs such as the “DigitalPakt Alter” and imparts important knowledge for the Internet and online banking.
On the same day, from 6:30 p.m. in the inner courtyard of the St. Arnual culture and reading meeting, the reading room invites you to the “Lesestube goes outdoor” event. Framed by the poetic sounds of local artists such as Sebastian Bungert and Jenny Theobald, the focus here is also on enjoyment. Admission is from 6 p.m. - register at kultur-und-lesetreff.sanktarnual@saarbruecken.de is recommended.
