Saarbrücken celebrates the Fête de la Musique: A musical festival for everyone!
There will soon be music in Saarbrücken! From June 21st to 26th the Music Festival celebrated, an international music festival that was launched in Paris in 1982 and now takes place in over 1000 cities worldwide, including more than 140 in Germany. This year the event is being organized by Cultural Office employee Katharina Ries with a fresh, colorful design and an almost festival-like zest.
Mayor Uwe Conradt will kick things off on Friday, June 20th at 3:40 p.m. in the inner courtyard of the Stadtgalerie, where the band “Marx & Wern” will open the musical program from 4 p.m. At the same time, the band “The Vintage Men” will perform blues music at the Ulanen Pavilion. At 5 p.m. “Archtop Affairs” takes over with swinging sounds at the Kulturcafé at St. Johanner Markt. For the first time, “OneBeach” will also take place at the Bismarck Bridge, where “Learn to Fly” will play rock and pop hits from 7 p.m.
A colorful mix of music for everyone
The punk rock fans don't miss out either: at 8:30 p.m. the group “Frosch kills Storch” shakes up Max-Ophüls-Platz. On Saturday, June 21st, this year's Saar Music Festival will make a contribution to the fête: The band "Stetson", previously known as "Honey Creek", will bring blues rock to the stage at Kawumm from 4 p.m. Marie22 will provide electronic music in the Schlossbiergarten from 6 p.m., while “Savoy Truffle” and the indie band “Die halbe Miet” will be on the stages of their respective venues at 7 p.m.
The Fête de la Musique provides a stage for both amateur and professional musicians and has developed dynamically, giving everyone the opportunity to take part in a performance. With a face that sparkles with joy of life, the event is now entering its 18th year in Saarbrücken, where the city has been celebrating regularly since 2007. This time the program has a clear focus on the city center, Mainzer Straße and the market, which means the event is spread across the entire city.
A feast for the senses
As diverse as the musical offering is, so is the community that gathers annually for the Fête de la Musique. From student concerts to reggae, classical music and sound art to open singing, everything is on offer that makes a music lover's heart beat faster. The control panel for the musicians was exciting this year because they were able to give free rein to their creativity when choosing performance locations. The registration deadline for music groups fell a good week ago - but as is often the case, there was a real increase in applications in the last few days.
The exact program will be published one week before the event in a program booklet, which will be available in the cultural information center at St. Johanner Markt. If you don't want to wait until then, you can find a timeline on the respective website as soon as possible, similar to what you see at large festivals. The bottom line is that the Fête de la Musique is not just a celebration, but a creative explosion that reflects the cultural diversity in Saarbrücken. Be there and let the music carry you away - because the city will become the largest concert hall in Europe in the coming days!
