In fact, the last six weeks have been very productive, with a lot of construction and renovation work being carried out at secondary schools in the area. Saarbrücken newspaper reports an investment of around 1.32 million euros that will flow into improving learning conditions and a modern learning environment. After all, this isn’t a piece of cake!

Many schools in the district benefited from the renovation work. A special measure is the new building of the academy for educators at the social and nursing vocational training center in St. Wendel, which is planned with a budget of 4.8 million euros. The first civil engineering work is already starting at a cost of around 350,000 euros, and completion is aimed for by the end of 2026.

Investments in education and school buildings in need of renovation

But it's not just in the St. Wendel district that things are looking active when it comes to school construction. A current one PwC study has shown that the need for renovation and new construction in Germany is immense. According to the study, around 700,000 additional school places will be needed by 2030. The necessary investments, which are estimated at around 55 billion euros, also illustrate the urgency of taking action now.

School properties offer lucrative opportunities, especially for private investors. The national average returns for very good existing properties are 4.5 to 5.5 percent. Long-term rental periods and secured rental payments are additional factors that make the market attractive. However, many municipalities are faced with the challenge of not being able to make the necessary investments on their own in terms of personnel and finances. Private sector partners are increasingly being relied upon to realize the necessary projects.

Overall, it can be seen that commitment to school construction is becoming increasingly important both locally and at the national level. Innovative approaches and investments are necessary to make the education sector fit for the future.
