Discover the Kirkel Forest: guided tour for World Ranger Day!

On Sunday, July 27th, nature lovers in Kirkel will have the unique opportunity to explore the forest together with a ranger. On the occasion of World Ranger Day, which is celebrated annually on July 31st, the Saarland Nature Watch, in cooperation with the Bliesgau Biosphere Association, organizes an exciting tour through the “Taubental core zone”. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the tasks and challenges faced by rangers worldwide.

The KiK (Kirkeler Forest) is not only known for its breathtaking nature, but has also been developed as a virgin forest since 2007. Here Patric Heintz, an experienced ranger, takes the lead. The hike starts at the parking lot at the Naturfreunde-Haus in Kirkel and is accessible for a fee of 4 euros for adults and 2 euros for children aged 10 and over. Anyone interested should register in advance by email at p.heintz@naturwacht-saarland.de.

The meaning of World Ranger Day

The World Ranger Day aims to draw attention to the important work of rangers who are committed to protecting natural and cultural heritage. At the same time, the fallen rangers who lost their lives in action are remembered. As part of this, donations will also be collected, including through the Thin Green Line Foundation, to help injured or deceased rangers and their families.

Rangers are often exposed to great dangers and their working conditions are not always easy. World Ranger Day is therefore an important event to raise public awareness of these challenges. Many rangers and supporters around the world are organizing events on July 31st to increase appreciation for their work and to draw attention to their concerns.
