Kirkel Castle Summer: 30 years full of adventure and history!

Kirkel Castle is celebrating a special anniversary this year: the popular “Castle Summer” event has been held in the picturesque setting of the historic castle ruins for 30 years now. As the Saarbrücken newspaper reports, the Kirkel Castle Summer is not only a flagship event for the Kirkel community, but also an integral part of the summer events in the region.

This year the castle summer will be celebrated from July 21st, as usual in the third decade of the month of July. The event comprises two main parts: On the one hand, the castle summer is aimed at school classes from the greater region before the summer holidays. On the other hand, during the holidays there is a broader event for the public that attracts both children and adults. Here visitors can immerse themselves in the fascinating world of knights and craftsmen. The crafts village at the foot of the Kirkel castle towers enables students to become familiar with various craft techniques such as felting or weaving.

The program: From storytelling to knight fights

The offers include, among other things, exciting bakery workshops, archery and crossbow shooting as well as informative tours of the castle and the local museum. These experiences not only promote a sense of community, but also an understanding of the regional history and traditions of the Middle Ages. In addition to the classic craft demonstrations, knight fights and medieval markets are also among the highlights of the program Today day supplemented.

Kirkel Castle, built before 1075, looks back on an eventful history. It served as an imperial fortress in the 12th century and was badly destroyed by arson in 1689. Nevertheless, the castle ruins attract visitors all year round and are revered as an important landmark in the community.

A celebration for the whole family

The castle summer is not only a cultural highlight, but also an opportunity for families and friends to spend time together and experience the medieval world up close. The organizers have a good knack for putting together an all-round successful festival. The event is also a wonderful opportunity to try out craft skills and engage with history in a lively way.

The positive feedback from visitors over the years speaks for itself: the Kirkel Castle Summer promotes both cohesion within the community and appreciation for one's own culture and history.
