20 young fire brigade heroes pass Youth Flame Level III in Tholey!
There was a lot going on at the fire department in the Bergweiler-Sotzweiler fire department last Saturday! 20 committed young people have successfully completed Youth Flame Level III. This award is not just a collector's item, but the highest level that can be achieved in the youth fire department. The participants came from the various firefighting districts in the municipality of Tholey: Bergweiler-Sotzweiler, Hasborn-Dautweiler, Bohnental and Theley. A very special day that was accompanied by many well-wishers!
The challenge consisted of a total of three stations that had to be mastered. First, the young people had to demonstrate their knowledge of firefighting technology and knowledge. This was followed by an extinguishing attack in which a special pipe for foams was also used. The final discipline was a practical first aid exercise where the recovery position, resuscitation and pressure bandaging had to be demonstrated. The third station was particularly exciting, where participants were asked to take part in a social or ecological project.
Shared commitment to the environment
A highlight here was taking part in the “Saarland Picobello” campaign. The young people presented their activities in a collage that impressively documented how they contributed to environmental protection. Klaus Kirchen, the head of the competition department, proudly presented the certificates and badges to the 18 youth fire brigade members who successfully passed the exam.
The crowd of well-wishers included Bernd Warken, the deputy municipal youth fire brigade officer, Dennis Kirsch, deputy fire chief, and Mayor Andreas Maldener, who congratulated the young people on their achievements. A big thank you goes to Klaus Kirchen for the fair evaluation as well as to all supervisors and the Bergweiler-Sotzweiler fire department who made this great event possible.
Pioneering work in the region
In the district, this form of testing has become particularly important for the youth fire brigade. For the first time, youth firefighters there received the “Youth Flame III” badge. The exam took place in the Sulzfeld fire station, and there too the examinees had to complete complex tasks in firefighting technology, first aid knowledge and practical operations in a retirement and nursing home. The young people were able to gain valuable insights into care and support by having conversations with residents of the home and even using wheelchairs.
The large number of active youth firefighters and their support shows how important this training is for the region. Deputy district youth officer Thomas Ganz was present to support the young firefighters in their successful test. A successful campaign that takes the youth fire department to new heights and strengthens the sense of community.
Overall, the successes of these committed young people are a strong sign for the next generation in the region's fire departments. True to the motto: Strong together – and for a good cause!
