Free Thought Tour: Understanding Dementia in St. Wendeler Land!
The Dementia Network invites you to a special event on Friday, June 13th - a free “Thought Walk” tour in the picturesque St. Wendeler Land. This initiative is intended to provide information about dementia and is aimed at both interested citizens and relatives of people with dementia. The event is organized in collaboration with the “Saarland lives healthy” project and starts at 2 p.m. at the Celtic Park parking lot in Nonnweiler-Otzenhausen.
Those interested can look forward to a guided tour that is not only informative, but can also be actively organized. The hike can be accessed on a walker, and numerous exercises to stimulate the senses and memory training are included during the tour. A highlight will be a stop at Café Keltenpark after the hike, where participants can come together in a relaxed atmosphere. Participation in this event is free, but prior registration at the Sankt Wendel District Senior Citizens' Office is required. Registrations can be made by phone at (06851) 8015201 or by email at seniorenbuero@lkwnd.de to ensure a smooth process. Nonnweiler Aktuell provides further information about this.
Understanding and support
The most important thing about events like this is that they help to reduce fear of contact and break the taboo surrounding the topic of dementia. For this reason, the Federal Ministry for Senior Citizens has launched a knowledge and help network that specifically addresses questions and information about dementia. This network promotes the active participation of people with dementia in social life and offers important orientation. Information can be found on the central online platform “Dementia Guide”, which also enables advice and exchange via internet forums. A special service offering is the Alzheimer's telephone, which provides support to those affected and their relatives in difficult times. Anyone who has questions about Alzheimer's, diagnosis, disease progression or therapy can contact trained social workers. Contact information and further details can be found on the [Federal Ministry of the Interior] website (https://www.bmfsfj.de/bmfsfj/themen/aeltere-menschen/demenz/informationen-fuer-demenzkranke-und-angehoerige/informationen-fuer-menschen-mit-demenz-und-ihre-angehoerigen-77348).
The “Gedankengang” tour in Nonnweiler is not just a hike, but also a step towards a more open society that is willing to talk about dementia and offer support to those affected. Each of us can help ensure that people with dementia are not excluded and can lead active, fulfilling lives. Be part of this important initiative!
