A dramatic incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, August 14, 2025, at an unsecured level crossing near Landscheide in the Steinburg district. A 60-year-old driver wanted to cross the level crossing with her car and a trailer when a freight train that came from Wilster. Despite the immediately initiated braking of the train driver, there was a collision between the train and the trailer, which was loaded with wood. Fortunately, the driver was unharmed, while the trailer was recorded and torn down. The volunteer fire brigades from St. Margarethen, Landscheide and Gudendorf were quickly on hand to check the train for possible leaks.
