Students from Heide-Ost create sniffing carpets for dogs in need of help

What a successful campaign! The sixth graders at the Heide-Ost Community School started the “dog license” project entirely for animal protection. Under the guidance of teacher Valesca Hipler and since the two school dogs Pepe and Ella are involved, a very special project was brought to life. The students learned how important it is to take responsibility and look after their four-legged friends. Particular attention was paid to the production of sniffing mats, a playful activity for dogs that promotes their nose work.

The young animal rights activists used fleece blankets and dishwashing mats for the carpets. The children finally cut the strips of fabric and tied them artfully so that the sniffing dogs could search for the treats when they were deployed. Of course, the carpets had to be tested personally for their functionality. Pepe and Ella were completely in their element and thrilled the students with their cheerful skills. Boyen's Media reports that the finished carpets were finally auctioned off and the students were proud to contribute 300 euros to the good cause.

A heartfelt contribution to animal protection

The generous donation goes to the Dithmarschen animal protection association and the animal shelter in Tensbüttel. This impressively shows how committed students in Schleswig-Holstein are to making the world a better place. SALVA dog aid emphasizes that with their project the students not only sharpen their own skills, but also raise awareness of animal welfare - an important mission in our society.

In the teaching project, which combined theory and practice, the students not only learned about the characteristics of the different dog breeds, but also dealt intensively with the body language and behavior of dogs. The combination of knowledge and practical implementation created great learning that is in line with animal welfare efforts.

Importance of animal welfare in education

Animal protection is not only a high priority in the schoolyard, but should also be a topic in the education system. As surveys show, children and young people now have a deep interest in animal welfare issues. This is also demonstrated by the education provided by initiatives such as ANIMA, which offer a variety of programs to promote awareness of animals and nature. ANIMA offers, among other things, workshops, working groups and lectures to introduce children to the topics of animal protection and animal ethics at an early age.

The commitment of the students at the Heide-Ost Community School is not only a great success, but also clear proof that you can achieve good things with commitment and creativity. This campaign is intended to encourage other schools to launch similar projects. After all, every contribution to animal protection is a step in the right direction!
