Escaped serval cat in Reinbek: search continues! Looking for clues!

July 10, 2025 brings fresh news from Schleswig-Holstein that offers both hope and challenges. The focus is on an escaped serval cat in Reinbek, whose search has caused a stir in the last few days. The animal escaped on Monday evening, July 7th and is probably in the Neuschönningstedt area. The city has already set up a trap and is asking the public to immediately report any sightings to the public order office or the police. These types of animal runaways not only cause concerned owners, but also a lot of interest in the neighborhood.

Another incident shook the quiet neighborhood in Dannewerk, where a fire broke out in an empty house on the evening of July 9th. The fire, which started in an adjacent garage, led to the mobilization of 35 firefighters who quickly intervened to prevent major damage. However, the flames flared up again early on Thursday morning, posing additional challenges for emergency services.

Coworking Spaces: Rural areas struggle with acceptance

An interesting phenomenon is the development of coworking spaces in Schleswig-Holstein. Despite an increase in recent years, particularly since the coronavirus pandemic, usage in rural areas remains below expectations. There are currently 23 coworking spaces in Schleswig-Holstein that are designed for freelancers, the self-employed and employees. In comparison to urban offers, such as in Lübeck, where monthly prices between 215 and 300 euros are charged for up to 16 jobs, rural offers are often significantly less frequented. In Großenbrode, for example, two jobs charge an impressive 1,600 euros per month, which is difficult for many to afford.

  • Lübeck, 23552: 16 Arbeitsplätze, €300 pro Monat.
  • Wanderup, 24997: 13 Arbeitsplätze, €450 pro Monat.
  • Gettorf, 24214: 14 Arbeitsplätze, €250 pro Monat.
  • Bad Bramstedt, 24576: 8 Arbeitsplätze, €150 pro Monat.
  • Felde, 24242: 20 Arbeitsplätze, €250 pro Monat.

The political and economic discussion about coworking in rural areas shows that there is still a lot of untapped potential. The acceptance and integration of these modern jobs could give local businesses a new lease of life. It remains exciting to see how supply and demand will develop.

Animal protection and social dialogue

The area of animal protection continues to be committed in Schleswig-Holstein. Livestock farming in particular is at the center of social discussions. The round table “Animal protection in livestock farming” was founded in 2013 in order to adapt the husbandry systems to the needs of the animals. A notable example of this is the joint agreement to abandon routine tail docking of pigs.

The animal protection officer Katharina Erdmann, who has been in office since December 2018, is also committed to animal protection outside of agriculture. A law passed in the state parliament in January 2015 allows recognized associations to appeal against animal welfare-related permits, representing a significant advance in animal welfare policy. Schleswig-Holstein is also active against the misery of free-living cats and carries out measures such as cat castration campaigns.

Amid all these events, the weather remains changeable, with dense clouds and occasional rain showers accompanying the day with temperatures between 19 and 23 degrees. The people of Schleswig-Holstein are well advised to have an umbrella handy. Overall, however, the region remains a place of change and development, both socially and economically.
