Five to sixth graders rock the Barclays Arena in Hamburg!

The audience was numerous and the atmosphere was exuberant when 6K United's big concert took place on June 18th at the Barclays Arena in Hamburg. Isabell Rehmeier, 11 years old and a 5b student at the Sandesneben primary and community school, was part of an impressive performance that brought together around 6,000 students from various types of schools in northern Germany. The preparations took almost an entire school year. herzogtum-direkt.de reports that the children were instructed in choreographies and songs by their music teacher Thimo Neumann using an online platform.

For the students, the trip to Hamburg on a double-decker bus was a real adventure. After going through security checks, they found themselves in the first four rows directly behind the stage. At the dress rehearsal they were able to enjoy support from professional musicians who not only helped them with their singing but also refined the choreographies. The concert, which took place in front of the parents in the packed arena, was the culmination of months of work and anticipation.

An unforgettable evening

The audience was offered a colorful program: from rousing pop songs to rock and rap songs to classic melodies and folkloric sounds from Sweden and South Africa. Particularly noteworthy was the surprise appearance of the Hamburg musician Bosse, who performed his hit “Dein Hurra” with the children. The concert ended with an impressive medley and a grand finale that brought the audience's enthusiasm to its peak. The fifth graders returned home exhausted but overjoyed, creating an unforgettable moment.

The “6K United” project aims to inspire children from all types of schools to sing together. As the Danish portal bdn.dk shows, schools and choirs in Germany are working together to develop a joint concert program. With moving pop songs, classical and folkloristic pieces, not only musical skills but also team spirit and motivation are promoted.

Music as a connection

In parallel to such projects, the Unter den Linden Chamber Orchestra in Berlin is involved, holding concerts and projects specifically for schools. It has a large repertoire of student concert programs and plays for tens of thousands of children and young people in the region every year. The orchestra conducts workshops to support schools and sees itself as a partner to music teachers. Information on current projects can be found on the website kudl-berlin.de.

The enthusiasm for music and the collaboration in large projects like 6K United show how strongly children can bond through singing and making music together. Such experiences not only shape their musical development, but also their social skills. The future will show what other creative opportunities will open up for the students.
