History up close: Holstein Kiel celebrates 125 years of club history!
The Holstein exhibition was officially opened at CITTI-PARK Kiel on Monday afternoon, offering a comprehensive insight into the 125-year history of the traditional club. Present at this ceremonial opening were, among others, KSV President Steffen Schneekloth, Silke Brombacher, the center manager, and club historian Patrick Nawe. The exhibition shows a wealth of exhibits that not only document the sporting successes of Holstein Kiel, but also reflect the emotional connection between the city and its club. In her speech, Silke Brombacher emphasized the importance of team spirit, which not only lives in sport but also in the community. Steffen Schneekloth expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to present the club's history to a broad audience.
The objects on display include the “Victoria” championship trophy, an oil painting that shows the decisive goal in the 1912 German championship final, as well as a detailed stadium model that was created by Klaus Jänicke in his youth and later restored. Manuel Neuer's goalkeeper gloves also find their place in the show, which, according to Patrick Nawe, serve to make the history of Holstein Kiel more tangible.
A look at the past
Holstein Kiel looks back on an eventful past. The club's roots go back to 1900, when nine men founded the Kiel Football Club on a train trip to Lübeck - despite the ban on their men's gymnastics club. 17 years later, it merged with other club structures to form the Kiel Holstein Sports Association. In over a century of its existence, Holstein Kiel has established itself not only as a sports club, but also as an indispensable part of Kiel's identity. The references to legendary players such as Ottmar Walter, a 1954 world champion, are just one of the many historical aspects discussed in the exhibition, which also mentions the only Olympic medal for KSV Holstein.
The Holstein Women are also recognized and given space in the exhibition. Players such as Sarah Begunk and Lela Naward expressed their joy at the women's team's performance. This recognition can also be understood in the wider context of football, particularly given recent developments aimed at strengthening women's football, a key aim of the DFB. The road to get there was long: women's football was only included in the DFB's statutes in 1970, after it had previously been banned.
A celebration for all fans
The opening and the anniversary exhibition will be rounded off on November 6th with an autograph session by the professional team, which many fans are already excited about. Here, supporters can get up close and personal with the players and secure memorabilia. The exhibition itself is a highlight for all football lovers who are interested in the history and successes of the club. In addition, Holstein Kiel is also celebrating promotion to the Bundesliga in 2024, which will take the club into an exciting new era.
If you have the opportunity, you shouldn't miss the Holstein exhibition in CITTI-PARK. It not only offers exciting insights into the club's past, but also shows the enormous development that Holstein Kiel has enjoyed through its committed players and fans - a journey through 125 years of football history in Kiel that continues.
