A very special event is being celebrated in Holtenau this year. The tenth soap box race will take place there on September 20, 2023, a highlight for young and old. Dirk Schluricke, who acts as race director, has been part of the event since the very beginning. He comes from a racing family and watched the exciting races of the Kiel Week as a child. How kn online reports, the idea for the soapbox race originated in 2012 by the Kita Hoppetosse support association, which wanted to use it to collect donations.
The first competition took place on September 7, 2013 and was received with great interest. The soap box race has now developed into a popular district festival that not only revolves around the race, but is also enriched by cake bazaars and bouncy castles for children.
A celebration for the whole family
On this special race day, the route will run along Kastanienallee and Richthofenstraße. Participants can put their skills to the test in four different racing classes. A special attraction is the “Nappy Class” for the little ones, aged between two and seven, who race for victory in bobby cars. The entry fee of five euros not only includes access to the race, but also food for the drivers.
Registrations are open until September 6th via the website kanal-flitzer.de possible. If you can't make it by then, you have the chance to register spontaneously on race day, provided there are still places available. Dirk Schluricke points out that a lot can happen at these races and that the drivers support each other, which further strengthens the community spirit of the event.
