Kiel Week 2025: How to reach millions of visitors stress-free!

When Kiel invites you to Kiel Week, crowds traditionally head to the city, and 2025 will be no exception. From June 21st to 29th, the city is expecting around three million visitors who will celebrate the motto “Home for All”. To ensure that the journey goes as smoothly as possible, the city of Kiel has developed a comprehensive mobility concept. The focus is on the various means of transport that are available: from cars and trains to bicycles, buses and e-scooters. The longing for Kiel Week can hardly be contained - NDR is also aware of the anticipation and reports comprehensively on the preparation of the event for visitors.

Public transport will play a central role this year. The Kieler Verkehrsgesellschaft (KVG) has launched a “Kieler Woche Ticket” for 13 euros, which allows unlimited travel on buses and trains for ten days. However, Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. are excluded. In addition to the particularly busy line F2 between Kiel and Schönberger Strand, NAH.SH and KVG have announced that they will use more trains on the weekends. Particularly noteworthy are the hourly connections late at night, which accommodate night owls.

Diverse travel options

So what’s the best way to get to Kiel Week? The recommendations are clear: on foot, by bike or by public transport. Anyone traveling by car should be prepared for restrictions on the roads, as many traffic routes will be closed during the festive season. To avoid parking chaos, we recommend parking your car outside the city and using public transport for the last few kilometers. The online platform www.kiel.de/parken provides up-to-date information on parking space utilization, so that drivers can also plan in advance where they will park their vehicle.

Visitors should also keep in mind that there can sometimes be waiting times that require patience, especially on the return day. But don't worry, additional buses were also provided to bring the guests home quickly and comfortably. In addition, there will be a pilot project for cycling traffic management on Kaistraße, in which special new cycle lanes will be set up.

Special offers and environmental awareness

A highlight is the glamping offer at the Kiel Week Camp, which offers pop-up hotel rooms right on the water, not far from the action. Located just 300 meters from the sea and 700 meters from the event venues, it is a charming way to experience Kiel Week up close.

What is particularly touching is the commitment of the volunteer rickshaw pilots, who offer lovely rides to older people as part of “Cycling Without Age”. This shows that Kiel Week is not only a celebration of maritime culture, but also sets an important example of community and inclusion.

Overall, Kiel Week 2025 will be a great event for everyone and has nothing to hide about - just like the city itself, which is increasingly gaining in quality of life and attractiveness. To ensure that everything runs smoothly, the city provides information via an interactive mobility map at www.kieler-woche.de/faq, which is extremely helpful when planning your journey.
