Market of Opportunities: A celebration of initiatives and commitments in Kiel!

On September 18, 2025, the “Market of Opportunities” took place at the Kiel University of Applied Sciences at the start of the semester. The event attracted visitors with a colorful mix of information and activities that were specifically tailored to students. A total of 43 exhibitors from student groups, university initiatives and external organizations presented themselves in the university's auditorium and foyer. In a pleasant atmosphere, visitors were able to get to know various initiatives and projects that are active on and around the campus. [fh-kiel.de reports that…]

Amid the hustle and bustle, students like Falke (21) and Keren (18) were thrilled by the variety of options on offer. The event not only offered information stands, but also interactive experiences: A campus radio stand provided a live broadcast with a mobile radio truck, while Campus TV provided a green screen on which visitors could appear in front of the camera.

Engagement and exchange

A highlight was the stand of the guardianship association “Lifeline”. Jessica Allermann, who was active there, was looking for volunteers and emphasized the valuable exchange that took place at the trade fair. Anna Schönrock from “Kiel.Works” emphasized the opportunities to talk directly to the students and collect feedback. Such encounters not only promote networking, but also personal commitment.

In the foyer, visitors could not only enjoy waffles, but also purchase merchandise with the Kiel University of Applied Sciences logo. These little treats and souvenirs made the event not only informative but also enjoyable.

Once a year and appreciated by many

The “Market of Opportunities” is organized once a year, with a focus on commitment to issues such as environmental and social protection and justice in one world. This focus corresponds to the aim of the event to show the diversity of civil society engagement and to promote one's own participation. This is also reflected in the numerous information stands and discussion groups that encourage active participation. [rbz-wirtschaft-kiel.de adds that…]

Events like these are not only important for students, but also for pupils, teachers and club representatives. The tradition of the market shows that interest in such events is high, even beyond Kiel's borders. More and more schools in Schleswig-Holstein are showing keen interest, which further enriches social engagement.

Networking and support

The “Market of Opportunities” is also in the context of higher-level initiatives such as the Association of German Student Initiatives. V. (VDSI), which has organized numerous events for students since it was founded in 2014. It represents over 50,000 students at 83 locations and offers these important platforms for gaining practical experience and promoting non-formal educational aspects. [vdsi.org reports that…]

In summary, the “Market of Opportunities” not only highlights the diverse opportunities that exist for students, but also highlights the commitment of communities interested in the development and support of young people. It seems as if the event has once again proven that there is the right feeling for the needs of the future.
