Aynur inspires at the shipyard summer: magic of Kurdish sounds!

On August 2nd, 2025 there will be a very special musical highlight as part of the legendary shipyard summer evening in Cologne. The iconic voice of the Kurdish people, Aynur, will take the stage from 8:00 p.m. She has made a name for herself by combining traditional Kurdish sounds with western music styles such as classical, jazz and pop. This is not just a concert, but also a journey through over two decades of artistic creation that has captured the hearts of many people worldwide. How our-luebeck.de reports, the event starts with an after-show party at which DJ Ipek Ipekçioğlu plays and focuses on the topic “Middle Eastern Elektro – TechnOrient”.

Aynur, born in Eastern Anatolia in 1975 and now living in Amsterdam, is one of the most important figures of identification in the Kurdish diaspora. Her career took off in 2004 with the song “Keçe Kurdan,” dedicated to Kurdish girls. This connection to her culture and her powerful, melancholic voice make her a unique artist whose influence extends far beyond the music scene. According to the Münchner Kammerspiele, she is a strong voice for women's rights and a critical voice against Turkish nationalism, which brought her a lot of hostility in her homeland.

A festival of sounds

With her current program “Rabe” (translated: “Stand up!” in the Kurmanji dialect), Aynur is bringing not just a concert, but a total work of art to the stage. Their musical elements are diverse: from folklore to meditative interludes to funky moments. This album, released on March 1, 2024, reflects themes of love, spirituality and the desire for freedom and is celebrated as the highlight of her artistic career. She collaborates with over 20 musicians, including international stars such as Michael League of Snarky Puppy and Wu Man, who contribute to the richness of her creative work. How worldmusiccentral.org describes in detail, Aynur combines traditional and modern musical structures in a novel way.

As a passionate vocalist and instrumentalist, Aynur has set standards that have not yet been achieved in Kurdish and Turkish music. Her moving singing can be heard in various Kurdish dialects as well as Turkish and has been enough to establish her as an “important voice in Kurdish music”.

Musical influences and awards

Her musical career began in Istanbul, where she studied singing and Bağlama lute playing. Invitations to renowned ensembles such as Yo-Yo Ma's Silkroad Ensemble and awards including the Master of Mediterranean Music Award and the WOMEX Artist Award testify to her exceptional talent and commitment to Kurdish and Alevi culture.

With a distinctive style and a mature artistic voice, Aynur is ready to enchant Cologne on August 2nd, 2025. Fans of Kurdish music and culture should not miss this event. For tickets and further information please visit www.shmf.de.
