Major fire in Lübeck: the all-clear after a dramatic night!

On October 9, 2025, there was a major fire in Lübeck-Karlshof in the early evening that kept the entire neighborhood on its toes. At around 7 p.m., numerous eyewitnesses reported significant flames in the roof area of a warehouse, which were visible from the parking lot of a neighboring supermarket. The thick smoke caused the fire department to be quickly alerted, which indicated the great danger. The roof was already burning badly when the first emergency services arrived. Residents were immediately warned via the Modular Warning System (MoWaS) and asked to keep windows and doors closed and to turn off air conditioning to keep out smoke and toxins. The warning was issued on October 8th at 7:47 p.m. and was specific to the affected areas of Lübeck.

Around 150 emergency services, including members of the professional fire brigade and the volunteer fire brigade, were on site. They used two turntable ladders to fight the flames and prevent them from spreading to adjacent buildings. The extinguishing work was expected to last into the night. Fortunately, according to initial information, there were no injuries. Nevertheless, the situation once again showed how important quick and effective crisis management is.

All-clear and current situation

At 1:33 a.m., the Lübeck control center gave the all-clear for the affected areas as the situation was classified as slightly dangerous. This all-clear applied to the whole of Schleswig-Holstein, but especially to Lübeck-Karlshof and Lübeck Israelsdorf. Despite the dramatic extent of the fire, it quickly became clear that the safety precautions taken by the emergency services and the communication among the population were effective.

The cause of the fire remains unclear and the police have launched an investigation. These events shed light on the importance of fire protection, which is continually addressed in Germany. A look at the latest statistics in fire protection shows that comprehensive data is necessary in order to be able to prevent and fight future fires more efficiently. There is often a lack of consistent, comprehensive statistics documenting the causes and effects of fires.

In Lübeck, the major fire hits terrain that appeals to many city residents. Their safety is paramount and the local population has shown that they are well informed and prepared in crisis situations. In view of the past events and the constant challenges caused by fires, a good exchange between the fire brigade and the population should continue to be very important. Information about fire risks and preventive measures are absolutely necessary to keep living spaces safe in the future.

The fire in Lübeck-Karlshof is not only a reminder for the residents, but also a sign of how important a well-functioning fire department and an informed population are for fire protection. The combination of quick reactions and efficient processes prevented anything worse from happening that night.
