Social Prize honors volunteers: Lübeck organizations honored!

Yesterday an important event took place in the community hall of the Christophorus Church in Lübeck-Eichholz: the award ceremony Volker Kaske Social Prize. This prize is awarded every two years to organizations in Lübeck that work on a voluntary basis to improve the quality of life. At a time when social commitment is more in demand than ever, the award winners had every reason to be happy.

Hermann Junghans, the CDU district chairman, spoke about the central role of volunteering: “The selfless commitment to vulnerable sections of the population is of immense importance,” he emphasized at the award ceremony. Roswitha Kaske, the wife of the former Social Senator who died in 2018, was also represented on the jury. For her, the memory of her husband and his commitment to social work continues to be very important.

Prize winners and awards

The main prize went to Annette Soppert from the 'Wellcome' campaign, which provides practical help for families after the birth. In addition to this award, many other organizations were also regularly recognized. Roswitha Kaske honored the Catholic Ukrainian scout organization PLAST and the Krummesse scouts for their remarkable commitment.

The Lübeck Cultural Table also received an award because it enables families in need to have access to cultural events by passing on event tickets. Letters of thanks from families who received support through the cultural table were read out during the ceremony and left a deep impression on those in attendance.

Volunteering in the focus of society

Voluntary work is very important in Germany these days, as is the case Federal Government emphasized. Millions of people are involved in areas such as emergency services, sport and culture. As the Minister of State for Sport and Volunteering emphasizes, volunteers have made a significant contribution, especially in times of crisis.

The measures to strengthen volunteer work, including the Future Pact for Volunteering, aim to improve the conditions for those who are committed. These include, among other things, increasing the flat rate for trainers and improving the recognition of volunteers. Such steps are important to encourage and value engagement.

The joy of the winners about their awards was clearly noticeable. Roswitha Kaske, the long-time social politician, plans to continue to support the prize in the future. Until the next award ceremony, which is scheduled to take place in two years, the hope remains that even more people will be motivated to get involved socially.
