Unconventional wedding in Lübeck: Kadgiens celebrate in silence!

In the last few weeks, the wedding landscape in Lübeck has once again brought lively news. On June 17, 2025, Holger and Frederike Kadgien tied the knot and celebrated their unconventional wedding with a small champagne reception and a fine 6-course menu. The two, who built a deep connection over the years, embarked on individual journeys during the Corona pandemic to find themselves and give their relationship new momentum. This was good for their love, as LN Online reports.

The Kadgiens now live out their togetherness through shared hobbies: cooking, reading and water sports are very popular. Georg Kadgien, 38 years old, is particularly a passionate pilgrim. He regularly travels the Way of St. James and has already explored the Via Scandinavica. Frederike shares this enthusiasm; Together they plan to walk the Camino Portugues, which is considered less well-known but just as impressive.

Way of St. James and osoben longings

The Way of St. James attracts people from all over the world. Many pilgrims want to walk this historic pilgrimage route that leads to Santiago de Compostela - the supposed tomb of the Apostle James. Numerous routes can be found on these paths, from the famous Camino Francés to the more challenging Camino Primitivo. As far as the motivations for a pilgrimage are concerned, people are often longing for change, hope and joy. Individual pilgrims often seek peace and quiet, while group travelers appreciate conviviality. This is also confirmed by Pilgerreisen.

But back to the Kadgiens' birthday party: The wedding took place in the closest circle, and the families and friends were only informed afterwards. But the reception and the joy of the newly married couple were great. A big celebration for friends and relatives is being planned for the future. Holger and Frederike wish each other a “Buen Camino” for their marriage, which not only symbolizes the journey through life together, but also the adventures that are still to come.

A look at weddings in Germany

But what about weddings in general in Germany? According to current statistics, marriage is still a worthy goal. Around 361,000 couples tied the knot in 2023, and summer weddings are particularly popular. The majority of weddings take place between May and September. Thanks to these figures, it also shows that interest in weddings remains unbroken despite some challenges. Couples often finance their celebrations themselves, and many of them rely on a stress-free celebration with 16 to 50 guests. This is how Statista describes it.

The average marriage age is 35.1 years for men and 32.6 years for women, while around a third of couples consider a wedding budget of 2,001 to 5,000 euros to be appropriate. Despite the fact that the divorce rate in the country is relatively high and around one in three marriages ends in divorce, the dream of the perfect wedding still remains relevant for many.

All of these aspects show that weddings - and the lives that accompany them - still offer a lot of room for hope, enthusiasm and planning. Whether with an unconventional reception or a pilgrimage together, love always finds a way to show itself.
