Timetable change 2025: More trains for commuters in South Holstein!

On November 4, 2025, there will be major changes in local public transport for the Schleswig-Holstein region. As NDR reports, the new timetable will come into force on December 14, 2025, and that promises a noticeable improvement for commuters and travelers in the region.

NAH.SH brings interesting news: In the future, trains will run every half hour between Neumünster and Hamburg. This represents a significant relief for commuters who regularly travel between these two cities. The service is also being expanded in Pinneberg, Prisdorf and Tornesch - regional trains to Hamburg and Kiel now run twice an hour.

Improved connectivity

The citizens' initiative “Strong Rail” in particular has been committed to better local transport in South Holstein over the last eleven years and can now celebrate its first successes. In addition to the new half-hourly service, the connection to Elmshorn will also be improved, which means further relief for commuters. The Nordbahn, which is introducing an hourly service on the RB61 and RB71 lines, should also not go unmentioned. These changes are no coincidence, as Deutsche Bahn is also adjusting the timing of regional express trains from Kiel and Hamburg by departing 15 minutes earlier or later.

However, the full implementation of the plans is still pending. The company DB InfraGO must be included in the final votes before the changes come into force. However, in the interim transition phase there could be isolated train cancellations, which is primarily due to the DB's infrastructural expansion measures.

Future outlook

The vision of better transport connections in Schleswig-Holstein is clear: more trains, better frequency and, above all, less stress for commuters. This could be the first step towards more sustainable mobility in the region. This shows that commitment and years of work by citizens' initiatives such as “Strong Rail” can bear fruit.

Politicians and mobility providers are now asked to implement the plans quickly and efficiently. The anticipation of the new timetable is already palpable, and many hope that these measures will benefit not only commuters, but the entire region. Every improvement in the transport system makes life in Schleswig-Holstein a little easier.
