Jasper Griebel leads the new AfD youth in Schleswig-Holstein!
Next Sunday, January 16, 2026, a new Schleswig-Holstein regional association of “Generation Germany” (GD) will be founded in Neumünster. This AfD youth organization emerged from the Junge Alternative (JA), which was dissolved in 2025. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution had classified the JA as definitely right-wing extremist. With Jasper Griebel (26) from Ahrensburg, a clear representative of this spectrum is running for chairman, although he can run unopposed. This raises questions in the political landscape of Schleswig-Holstein, especially with regard to the connections of some members to the right-wing extremist milieu, about which there have already been numerous disputes.
Jasper Griebel is not only the deputy district chairman of the AfD in the Stormarn district, but has also become known as an active participant in right-wing extremist events. Among other things, he took part in a right-wing rap concert by the group “Neuer Deutscher Standard” and was present at the “Merkel must go” demonstrations in Hamburg in 2019. His connections to Junge Alternative from 2020 until the dissolution brought him into additional criticism. Most recently he was regional chairman of JA Südholstein.
Right-wing extremist past
His legal problems continue the debate about his suitability as a leader. In 2021, Griebel was convicted of attempted coercion and bodily harm in connection with a Querdenker demonstration in Berlin, which earned him a fine of 9,600 euros. An incident in 2020 in which he fired a blank gun or gas pistol at anti-fascists also led to a significant outcry. He himself sees this incident as a defense against an attack and emphasizes that he rejects violence to achieve political goals - although he emphasizes the right to self-defense.
Attention is also paid to the federal level. The GD is only accessible to members of the AfD and is intended to train staff for the party and parliaments. According to tagesschau.de, the GD's declared goal is the nationwide normalization of the AfD, similar to the development in eastern Germany. The organization receives particular support from well-known members such as Alice Weidel and Jean-Pascal Hohm, who chairs it and emphasizes the continuity with the former Junge Alternative.
Countertones and resistance
Despite the planned establishment of the regional association, counter-protests from various groups have already been announced. These developments are also being monitored by the Regional Advisory Team against Right-Wing Extremism (RBT), which has noted no moderation by the DG compared to its predecessor organization. The right-wing extremist scene in Schleswig-Holstein continues to be the focus of attention.
The re-establishment of the GD comes at a time when local and state elections are due in five federal states in 2026. For the AfD, the question arises as to whether this new youth organization can help strengthen the echoes of a ethnic agenda and attract new specialists for political representation. Opinions about the legitimacy and intentions of this movement are divided, which could influence the political discussion in Germany, not just in Schleswig-Holstein. But how will this situation develop further? The coming weeks will show what further developments the AfD and its youth organizations will take.
