Cost-effective holiday tips: fairytale summer and adventure in Flensburg!
There is a lot to discover during these summer holidays in the idyllic border region between Germany and Denmark. The region around Flensburg and North Frisia invites you to a variety of inexpensive and free activities that are suitable for young and old alike. The focus is particularly on the fourth Flensburg Fairy Tale Summer, which will take place this year from June 8th to August 10th, 2025. Every Sunday at 4 p.m., wonderful stories are told on the meadow next to the water tower that touch the heart and stimulate the imagination. Admission is free and the atmosphere is barrier-free so everyone can take part.

However, the activities are not limited to fairy tales. The region also offers numerous opportunities to enjoy nature and attend cultural events. A visit to the water tower in Flensburg is highly recommended. This is open from Wednesday to Sunday and allows visitors to enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding area. The best part? Admission is also free!
For theater lovers young and old there is this in summerKreft’s puppet stageon Nordstrand, which offers puppetastic performances every Monday at 3:30 p.m. from July 14th to August 25th - and at no cost!
Adventure on the Schlei
Another highlight is the digital scavenger hunt on the Schlei, which is offered by Ostseefjord Schlei GmbH. This entry-free activity combines fun with adventure and especially invites families to explore the region in a playful way.
If you prefer something quieter, you can take part in the free and inexpensive city tours in Kappeln and Schleswig. Participants can expect an exciting and informative experience here.Friedrichstadt, also known as “Little Amsterdam,” has sundowner beach concerts on Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is free, so you can enjoy the evening comfortably.
Sport and recreation
For the sports enthusiasts among us, the Gendarme Path is ideal. This stretches over 84 kilometers and leads through beautiful, idyllic landscapes and various stages with their special features. The swimming opportunities on the west coast and in the Bay of Lübeck are also diverse and invite you to relax.
The Flensburg and North Frisia region has something to offer for everyone - whether a relaxed story time, an exciting puppet show or relaxing beach concerts. Anyone who spends the summer months in this picturesque region will definitely get their money's worth and make a lot of great memories!
