Schleswig-Holstein: School tails and wind power under pressure!
In Schleswig-Holstein there are all sorts of excitement these days-both on the soccer field and in the wind power industry. Football fans can look forward to an exciting duel: Holstein Kiel has been satisfied in the match against Darmstadt 98 with a 1-1. Coach Marcel Rapp is satisfied with the result, but still sees space for improvements. The Kiel team remains in the midfield of the table. SC Weiche Flensburg also celebrated a success: they won 5: 3 against SV Meppen in the Regionalliga Nord, which certainly creates a good atmosphere among fans.
But the weather makes the Schleswig-Holsteiner: more to create inside. A storm low brings hurricane -like gusts and rain, which led to some fallen trees. Despite everything, there have been only a few damage and luckily no injuries. Ferry traffic in North Friesland is severely restricted, and a storm surge on the North Sea is even announced for the coming Sunday.
School tails and Thanksgiving parade
Another topic is concerned with the educational landscape: In the first half of the school year 2024/25, 2,770 school swimmers were recorded in Schleswig-Holstein, which is an increase of 500 compared to the same period in the previous year. The reasons are often in psychological stress, family crises and a school overwhelming. Researchers at the universities of Flensburg and Leipzig are busy finding how schools can better achieve their students by 2027.
Meanwhile, people in Vaale are preparing for the largest Thanksgiving parade in Northern Germany. Over 70 festively decorated cars and playing music groups bring a happy mood to the region, while on Sunday a nationwide Thanksgiving festival with church service and festival mile is celebrated in Wilster.
Wind power expansion as a future topic
A central topic that could shape the future of Schleswig-Holstein is the expansion of wind turbines. The country continues to lead nationwide with regard to the expansion of wind turbines, although the permits for new facilities decreased slightly last year. In 2024, 204 new wind turbines were approved, with a total output of 1.1 gigawatts. While the approval procedures in Schleswig-Holstein take an average of 18 months, the national average is around 23 months. So the efficiency is clearly visible.
Renewable energy production is particularly impressive. In 2024, a proud 27.3 Terawatt hours of green electricity were generated in Schleswig-Holstein, which covers more than double the country's power consumption. This makes Schleswig-Holstein almost twice the energy required from renewable sources. The installed wind power performance is currently 9.0 gigawatts, which lags behind with 12.9 gigawatts compared to other federal states like Lower Saxony. Despite this deficit, the future prospects are promising.
The state government plans to create a generation of 45 terawatt hours by 2030 and urgently call for the expansion of electricity routes in order to be able to efficiently guide the green current produced to the consumption centers. The pressure on the new federal government for creating reliable framework conditions for the energy transition is growing. The Minister of Energy Transition, Tobias Goldschmidt, has emphasized the need to get the amendment to the Federal Requestant Law on the way.
In the midst of all these developments, Schleswig-Holstein is therefore a district that is not only active in sports, but is also intensively committed to a green and sustainable future. It is to be hoped that the wind - regardless of the context - is favorable.
