Today, November 6th, 2025, the long-awaited event finally happened in Riepsdorf Cycle path between Rüting and Grube officially inaugurated with the groundbreaking ceremony. The five kilometer long cycle path was in planning for over 40 years and is now becoming a reality. The anticipation among the participating communities of Riepsdorf, Grube and Grömitz is palpable, as the mayors and the construction manager emphasized in the opening speech.

The mayor of Grömitz, Sebastian Rieke, was enthusiastic about the start of construction and emphasized that this cycle path represents an important gap for cycle tourism in the region. The mayor of Grube, Kirsten Sköries, also highlighted the long waiting time and spoke of the importance of the project for the safety of cyclists on state road 231. Riepsdorf's mayor Dietmar Lüdtke made it clear that there are many dangers for cyclists on this state road, which the new route is intended to reduce.

Current status of construction work

The construction manager Anja Plewa informed those present about the current status of the work: The topsoil has been removed and the first drainages are now being laid. Before construction of the cycle path begins, the lines for the Karkbrook association must also be laid, which is intended to ensure security of supply between Rüting and Riepsdorf. There is currently no drinking water pipe there, a new route is now being created.

The construction contract for the cycle path was awarded to the Grimm road and civil engineering company from Hobstin. Completion of the cycle path is planned for the next two years, which increases anticipation of safe cycling pleasure in the region. Rieke and Lüdtke agree: There is good business here for citizens and visitors who want to explore the beautiful landscapes of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on two wheels.

Cycle tourism in focus

The planned cycle path is not only important for the local population, but it is also seen as a key project for cycle tourism, which is becoming increasingly important in Germany. The German Tourism Association highlights that the infrastructure for cyclists has been significantly expanded in recent years and that more and more people are considering cycling as an environmentally friendly alternative.

The connection between Rüting and Grube is an important part of the regional cycle path network. With the opening of this cycle path, not only residents can look forward to greater safety, but also tourists who want to explore this beautiful landscape by bike. And at a time when more and more people are looking for nature and exercise in the fresh air, the new cycle path shows that a good plan has also taken effect in our region.

The next steps in this construction project are crucial to optimally support both cyclists and residents. There is great anticipation for the new route and we remain excited about further developments.
