Traffic chaos in Barkau: Eutiner Straße will be closed until September!
In Barkau, a small district in Ostholstein, the next few months will be dominated by construction work and traffic disruptions. The comprehensive renovation of Eutiner Straße (K55) will begin on July 15, 2025 and is scheduled to last until September 4, 2025. This measure affects the section between the car park at the entrance to the town and Schwienkuhler Weg and is carried out under complete closure to ensure quality, safety and occupational health during the work. Residents must therefore expect restricted access to their properties while the construction company provides on-site information about potential disruptions. Fortunately, passage for police and emergency services remains guaranteed, and garbage collection will be ensured at the usual times in coordination with the construction work kn-online reported.
Another reason for this renovation measure is the final completion of the last damaged section of the K55, which lies between areas that have already been renovated. At the same time, the Ostholstein Association is carrying out important work on the waste water sewer system and the renewal of the storm water sewer. The construction work is divided into three sections, with the first running from the parking lot at the northern entrance to Schwienkuhler Weg. The further construction phases include the areas of Schwienkuhler Weg to Wennenbarg and Wennenbarg to the southern entrance to the town, as explained in another report by shz.
Detour and traffic management
A diversion will be signposted for through traffic: The route leads from Pönitz via the B432 and the L309 to Süsel and further via the B76 to Eutin, exactly the same in the opposite direction. Naturally, road users have to expect delays, especially since the speed limit is currently 30 in town traffic due to existing road damage. The construction work includes the full expansion of the roadway, the renewal of the on-board systems and the decoration of the bus stops and paved gutters. The construction work will be coordinated in coordination with the police, the traffic authority and the bus line operators in order to keep the burden on residents as low as possible.
An important note for public transport users: During the work, public buses will not serve Barkau, which will particularly affect school bus traffic. Traffic information for the region can also be accessed via ADAC Maps, which provides real-time data on traffic flow and current construction sites.
The total costs of the road renewals amount to around two million euros and will be borne by the Ostholstein district. While the work will continue until 2027, pedestrian accessibility to the properties will remain guaranteed in any case. Residents will be informed in advance about restrictions and accessibility so that they can plan accordingly.
