A breath of fresh air in Nortorf: New church musician brings new sound!
Something is happening in the musical landscape in Nortorf! The St. Martin parish has gained a new church musician, Markus Hansen, who brings a breath of fresh air into the musical activities. The 36-year-old, born in Rostock and raised in Brandenburg, has contributed to the musical well-being of the community since February. The congregation has decided to create a full church musician position in order to further promote church music activities, as kirche-gettorf.de reports.
Markus Hansen is currently completing a second degree in church music at the University of Greifswald and previously studied musicology at the universities of Kiel and Oldenburg. His impressive career took him, among other places, to Magdeburg, where he was active in early musical education. There he also gained his first experiences in church music, which he would now like to bring to Nortorf.
A new sound in the St. Martin parish
Hansen has already created an instrumental music group consisting of ten curious musicians between the ages of 40 and 70. This colorful group, which consists mainly of women, rehearses every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in St. Mark's House or in the church. The instruments range from guitar and accordion to recorder and clarinet to saxophone, horn and trombone [shz.de].
The repertoire includes a wide range of church music, but also tango and German music. After already performing at the Pentecost service, the group is eager to plan further events. In order to expand the musical ranks, Hansen is also looking for additional musicians and new instruments that could enrich his group.
About the musical offerings
In addition to the instrumental music group, Markus Hansen has also taken over the management of the choir and a mixed choir with 45 singers. Promoting young musicians is particularly important to him, which is why he also looks after a children's and youth choir, which has 15 and 10 members respectively. He is responsible for the musical accompaniment of church services, baptisms, weddings and funeral ceremonies and leads an orchestra with 30 musicians, which further increases the musical diversity in the St. Martin community.
The future looks promising - Markus Hansen plans to combine the tried and tested with the new and to work closely with the pastors. Visitors to St. Martin's Church can look forward to an interesting and varied program. Interested readers can find information about the choirs on the St. Martin parish homepage.
