Price increase for student tickets: Segeberg is planning drastic changes!
There is news in the Segeberg district that primarily affects families with school-age children. Today, November 5, 2025, it is announced that around 4,700 students in the district will receive a subsidized Germany ticket. This provides relief because many parents are worried about the rising costs of local public transport.
However, the coming months hold changes. From January 2026, the Germany ticket will be five euros more expensive. This means that students who do not get a free ticket do not have to expect a price increase in the initial phase, as the costs initially remain the same. The Segeberg district currently pays 20 euros per month for the partially financed student tickets.
Price adjustment not before the new school year
There is a possibility of an increase in the parents' own contribution: this could rise from 38 to 43 euros. However, according to those responsible in the district, it will not be possible to implement this at the turn of the year 2026. From November 5th, several committees will discuss the price changes, but the price increase will not come into force until the beginning of the 2026/27 school year.
What is interesting is that, given the planned changes to 4,700 student tickets and a validity of eight months, additional costs of around 188,000 euros can be expected for the district. The question here is whether the district can later reclaim the costs incurred or whether it is necessary to adapt the online system for future price changes. Very similar proposals will also be discussed in the neighboring Pinneberg district starting next week.
Decisions in December
The final decisions on this issue are scheduled for December, and many are hoping for a good hand from those responsible. It remains to be hoped that the planned steps will benefit families in the Segeberg district not only on paper, but also in practice.
