Ostseepark celebrates its reopening – hope for sweethearts and refugees!
There's a lot going on in the Ostseepark Schwentinental, and the most pleasing thing about it is the opening of a new surplus store by Nihat Kumcu. There is great optimism because citizens can breathe a sigh of relief after the end of the B76 construction site and the opening of Kaufland. But that's not the only thing that creates positive feelings in the region.
Particularly noteworthy is the commitment of Andrea Witt, who has been organizing leisure trips for children and young people with diabetes with her group “Zuckerschnuten” for 25 years. “Zuckerschnuten” has established itself as an important network that supports parents and children in coping with their type I diabetes. Not only can the little ones exchange ideas here, but playing together is also on the agenda. Andrea Witt is the main contact person for interested parents and children. Contact can be made either via email andrea-witt@gmx.de or by telephone on 04526 / 1609 (from 3:00 p.m.). Advance registration is required to reserve a spot. This shows how lively the community is and that the exchange among each other is an important foundation for the members.
Hope for the future
Another issue that concerns the region is the situation of Florence Kurija, who recently found herself in a delicate situation because she was about to be deported. But now there is hope of staying thanks to her training contract to become a nursing assistant and nursing specialist. This turnaround not only brings relief to Florence, but also a sense of stability and perspective to the community.
The developments in Schwentinental are overall positive. With the announcement of the upcoming mayoral election in 2026 and the call for proposals by January 12, 2026, there is an opportunity to bring a breath of fresh air into the city's political landscape. The election date is scheduled for March 8, 2026 and leaves room for new ideas.
Animal protection in focus
Women and men from the region also have animal protection in mind. From 2026, all outdoor cats will have to be neutered and chipped, and owners will have to cover the costs. This is a step to both regulate the cat population and ensure the protection of birds. Such measures benefit many and prove that Schwentinental also takes responsibility for animal residents.
The Baltic Sea Park with its diverse development and the groups like “Zuckerschnuten” show that things are flourishing in Schwentinental and that people stick together well. The positive mood could hardly be better - something is happening and the residents are ready to tackle the coming challenges with confidence.
