Dream job police: Melika Wolf is preparing for a big challenge!

In Schleswig-Holstein, a young woman has a very special dream: Melika Wolf, 16 years old, plans to go to the police. This week she is preparing for her aptitude tests, which will take place on November 17, 2025. The motivation is great because Melika is particularly fond of the water police and the dog unit. Her path is filled with challenges, but Melika is determined to achieve her goals. At a “Police Inside” evening she received valuable information about the training and tests from Police Chief Inspector Hartmut Lemke, which only strengthened her ambition.

The application window for the state police has been extended until further notice. Interested parties now have the opportunity to apply for the training to start on August 1, 2026. For Melika, this is a ray of hope, because the competition is strong: in 2025 there were 2,116 applications for 310 positions, while in 2026 the recruitment of 250 trainees, divided into 100 for middle and 150 for senior service, is planned.

Entry into police life

In order to be admitted to police training in Schleswig-Holstein, prospective police officers must meet a number of requirements. These range from a secondary school diploma with vocational training or a secondary school diploma for middle service to a technical college entrance qualification or the Abitur for higher service. The physical requirements should not be neglected either: applicants must be over 1.60 meters tall and have basic fitness. A sports test is also part of the recruitment process.

But mental fitness is also put to the test. The prospective police officers have to complete educational tests, an IQ test and a dictation under time pressure. With a clear idea of her goals and a healthy dose of ambition, Melika Wolf shows that she is ready to take on these challenges. She plans to do her 2.5-year training in the middle service in Eutin and feels encouraged in her career aspirations by the information evening and the tour of the Plön police station.

Alternatives and new ways

But it's not just Melika who is aiming for a career in the security forces sector. Chiara Herden, 28, also has big plans. She wants to become a helicopter pilot and is studying media engineering. Her passion for aviation and the opportunity to become part of the Federal Police inspired her to look for new paths in her career.

As you can see, the career paths are diverse and applicants have the opportunity to pursue their dream job in the police service. The current framework conditions offer opportunities - but also many challenges that need to be overcome.

It remains to be seen where the allocation of training positions in the police service in Schleswig-Holstein will go in the near future. What is certain, however, is that enthusiasm for a career in the police remains high and many young people, like Melika and Chiara, are ready to pursue their path with a lot of commitment and ambition.
