From trainee to boss: Ralf Bastian leads Elektro-Steffen to success!

What's new in Schönberg? A lot has changed in the world of electrical installation, especially at Elektro-Steffen. Ralf Bastian, the company's managing partner, has had an impressive career that starts from a humble start. Ralf, who started out as an electrical fitter, has made the leap into management with a lot of commitment. At that time he received support from his father, who helped him find his apprenticeship. After graduating from secondary school, Bastian successfully passed the master's examination in 1993 - even though he had to apply for an exemption.

His career took off when he took on responsibility for various real estate projects in the new federal states. In 2001 he became a partner at Elektro-Steffen, which enabled the company to expand rapidly. The willingness to innovate and invest as well as the takeover of smaller craft companies meant that Elektro-Steffen grew quickly and employed more than 30 people in 2016. In addition to economic success, Ralf Bastian also has the well-being of his employees in mind: “It is important to me that we offer our young talent solid training,” he emphasizes. His company currently has 14 trainees and offers them not only practical experience, but also comprehensive training opportunities.

Focus on leadership development

An important part of Bastian's philosophy is leadership development. The first 100 days of a new supervisor are crucial for future success, as the IHK-Weiterbildung explains. Bastian has therefore implemented a comprehensive leadership development program in his company that promotes new leadership talent and includes various modules. These not only teach basic leadership skills, but also effective communication strategies, conflict resolution and a deep understanding of the corporate culture.

These programs are also becoming increasingly relevant for companies, as a study by the Haufe Academy shows. It points out that in the future, leadership development will become a central issue in HR, especially in view of the challenges that many HR managers are currently observing. 75 percent of them see overwhelmed managers - a sign that it is time to take new paths in leadership development.

The importance of training and further education

Bastian not only works on the development of his managers, but also on their correct integration into the corporate strategy. With his approach, he shows how important it is to promote young talent and not only to attract but also to retain skilled workers. The IHK programs, which complement Bastian's leadership skills, enable participants to significantly improve their skills in the areas of self-management, people management and business management. Targeted learning through practical modules is an interesting way to ensure the long-term success of the company.

A successful concept is an inseparable part of Bastian's vision. With his commitment to innovative training and leadership, he has not only set the course for the future of Elektro-Steffen, but also sets an example of how a company can grow sustainably. The path from apprenticeship to management is a well-thought-out strategy that is considered a recipe for success in the modern working world.
