Brutal attack in Lindau: 13-year-old attacked by teenagers!

In a disturbing wave of aggression, four teenagers between the ages of 11 and 13 brutally attacked a 13-year-old boy at a bus station in Lindau on Lake Constance late on Friday evening. Using emergency hammers that they had previously stolen from a bus, the attackers beat their victim and kicked him to the ground several times. The attackers fled after the crime, leaving the injured boy behind, reported SWR.

The police responded quickly to the incident. Various police patrols search for the fleeing young people, who were finally discovered behind the criminal investigation building. After the arrest, the minors were taken to the police station and later handed over to their guardians. Fortunately, the victim escaped with minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

The argument as a trigger

A verbal argument between the boy who was attacked and one of the attackers is said to have been the reason for the brutal attack. Despite the young age group of the perpetrators, this is not the first time such incidents have made the rounds in the region. Recent statistics show a worrying increase in youth crime, particularly violent crimes. In the police crime statistics for 2024, an increase of 11.3 percent was recorded in suspected children under the age of 14 ZDF reported.

What is particularly striking is the fact that although the total number of suspects is decreasing, the willingness to use violence among young people, especially young men, is increasing. These trends raise questions related to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and social pressures. Criminologists like Dirk Baier are calling for a differentiated discussion about criminal responsibility, which is currently set at 14 in Germany.

A cry for help for prevention

The case in Lindau is an indication of the challenges our society faces. Is there a need for more preventative measures and social-educational approaches? The Rhine Palatinate further describes that the youth welfare offices were informed about the incident, which points to the importance of interventions that should both support children in difficulty and reduce the risk of violence.

The events in Lindau offer a small but clear insight into the current situation surrounding youth crime. It is up to all of us to take the signs seriously and find solutions to avoid such incidents in the future.
