KVJBO Alb/Donau shines at the orchestra competition in Wiesbaden!
The Alb/Donau District Youth Wind Orchestra (KVJBO) played its way into the hearts of the audience with an impressive performance at the German Orchestra Competition in Wiesbaden. The performance, led by conductor Lukas Weiss, took place in the impressive Wiesbaden Kurhaus. Around 70 musicians showed off their skills and achieved an impressive 22.4 points. With this number of points, the orchestra not only qualified as the state winner of Baden-Württemberg, but was also able to compete with other outstanding orchestras. First prize went to the Hilgen Orchestra Association with 24.8 points, followed by the Wertingen City Orchestra Wind Philharmonic with 24.2 points. Closely beaten, but still in good company, the KVJBO missed third place, which the Memmingen city band took with 22.8 points. swp.de reports that ...
Pieces such as “Vasa” by José Suñer Oriola and “Angels in Architecture” by Frank Ticheli were played, which were crucial to the KVJBO’s excellent performance. Participation in such prestigious competitions is an important part of the young musicians' musical education and offers plenty of opportunity to exchange ideas with like-minded people and develop further.
A concert full of highlights
But the KVJBO has other exciting events on the program. There will be a concert in the Congress Center Ulm on Thursday, May 29, 2025, starting at 2:00 p.m. Under the motto “In Ulm, around Ulm and around Ulm” visitors will be enchanted with a diverse program. You can expect a mixture of original symphonic works, film music, contemporary compositions, big band style and program music. Ticket prices are €10.90 regular, €8.70 reduced and €5.40 for participants. deutsches-musikfest.de adds that…
The upcoming highlights are a sign of the orchestra's positive development. Lukas Weiss, who has been conducting since the beginning of 2024, brings a breath of fresh air and broad experience. Born in Ulm, he made a name for himself through his studies of trumpet and pedagogy as well as his deepening in conducting. One of the most significant successes is the representation of Baden-Württemberg at the upcoming German Orchestra Competition (DOW) 2025.
The look into the future
The DOW 2025 will take place in Mainz and Wiesbaden and offers a platform for orchestras from all over Germany to demonstrate their talents. The participating orchestras were informed about their nomination by email on December 12, 2024. This deadline is crucial as all necessary registrations and documents must be submitted by January 16, 2025. The chances are good for the KVJBO, especially since it has already been able to shine with its first-class musical performance in the past. With a forward-looking motto and an appealing repertoire, which includes, among other things, the KVJBO Fanfare and works by Anton Bruckner, the orchestra looks forward to the coming challenges with optimism. Every performance is an opportunity to strengthen the community and promote musical exchange between the musicians.
