Markdorf celebrates: children's theater festival delights 1,800 visitors!
In Markdorf, the children's theater festival made the hearts of young and old beat faster for the third time. From October 14th to 18th, visitors were invited to be enchanted by a colorful program of 14 performances in the town hall. On Tuesday, the “Artisanen” puppet theater performed the classic story “The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids”. On Wednesday the compagnie nik followed with “Adult?!”, while on Thursday the Fithe thrilled the little viewers with “The Miracle Ball”. In addition to the children's play "POP up, Pirate!" by Franziska Hoffmann there was also the fairy tale night for adults, which offered a special space for everyone aged 15 and over. Doors open at 8 p.m. – after all, shuddering is part of it!
Another highlight of the festival was the Kranewit Theater's production of “Rapunzel,” which provided a great deal of excitement on Saturday. A total of around 1,800 guests came, which means a pleasing increase of 100 visitors compared to the previous year. Organizer Claudius Beck was enthusiastic about the trust that schools and kindergartens place in the quality of the pieces and was pleased about the participation of a total of 71 groups. “This is a clear indication for us that we are on the right path,” said Beck.
Diversity and commitment
The festival not only attracted visitors with performances, but also with a two-day children's mile in the city center, which took place on October 17th and 18th. Here, the little visitors were able to enjoy a variety of hands-on activities: from face painting and crafts to spectacular shows, such as the light show by juggler Nils Müller. Support came from Markdorf Marketing, which further enhanced the event.
Beck took the special responsibility associated with the selection of pieces seriously. He expressed concerns about younger children being taken to shows intended more for older children. His long-standing connection to child and youth work, which began in the 1970s, is reflected in his instinct for the right offers.
Theater as an experience
Beck, who grew up in Markdorf and was born in 1954, previously worked, among other things, as head of the city's youth department and is now managing director of an advertising and cultural agency. His networks with children's and youth theaters in German-speaking countries enable him to put together a varied and high-quality program. For him, theater for children is an important experience that the digital age with its screens cannot replace.
Looking to the future, Beck is already planning the next festivals for 2026 and 2027 - because interest in lively children's theater remains unbroken. Anyone who would like to find out more about the exciting world of theater and what it has to offer can take part in the Schiller Theater's regular theater meetings. These not only offer information, but also the opportunity to become active and immerse yourself in the subject matter.
The children's theater festival in Markdorf was not only a lesson in high-quality culture, but also a celebration of good experiences that vividly speaks into the lives of the three to twelve-year-old visitors. The town can be proud of such committed events, which not only fill children's eyes with sparkle, but also occupy an important place in the community.
