Onset of winter on Lake Constance: slippery roads and salt deposits ready!
Winter is approaching and the forecasts show that we can expect the first strong onset of winter from Thursday. Loud SWR Temperatures just below freezing and snowfall are expected, which calls on residents of both Lake Constance and Upper Swabia. Drivers will have to prepare for slippery roads, especially in the morning and evening hours.
The Biberach district is well prepared in the region. There are 36 gritting and snow removal vehicles available here, and a stock of 4,000 tons of road salt ensures that the roads remain safe. Up to seven vehicles are in use in the road maintenance depot in Tettnang, supported by 1,000 tons of salt and 65,000 liters of liquid salt for the preventive combating of slippery roads. The winter service starts at 2.30 a.m. in order to meet the challenges.
Comprehensive road safety measures
It is clear that the safety of road users comes first. In Bavaria, the state construction administration has even larger capacities at its disposal with 400,000 tons of salt supplies and 880 vehicles World informed. With a team of 2,000 employees, attention to smooth roads is kept high. In order to remain independent of imported salt, moistened road salt and salt solutions are even used.
An innovative step in Bavaria is working with a cucumber processor to use excess salt water. This not only saves resources, but is also an example of sustainable action - more than 180 tons of road salt and 1.5 million liters of water were saved. The cost of road safety last winter amounted to almost 56 million euros, with 15 million euros going directly to road salt.
Attention and consideration
Whether in Biberach or Bavaria, the message is clear: you should regularly pay attention to the weather reports and road conditions to avoid unpleasant surprises. In the well-secured areas, forest areas and bridges are particularly at risk. Road users are asked to be considerate and not to overtake winter service vehicles - everyone's safety is the top priority.
With these measures nothing stands in the way of winter service. Especially now that winter is approaching the country, the road maintenance departments are being challenged, but they have a good handle on traffic safety in the region.
