Small feet, big impact: charity run in Böblingen inspires everyone!
The Erich Kästner elementary school in Böblingen made an impressive statement for the good cause with its first fundraising run. On May 28, 2025, around 170 students from grades 1 to 4 competed against each other in Diezenhalde Park to run as many laps as possible in half an hour. Despite the persistent rain, the children showed great commitment and ran a total of 1,852 laps, which corresponds to a distance of almost 520 kilometers. The donations collected amount to an impressive 6,500 euros.
The initiative was actively supported by teachers, parents and volunteers. Sponsors were acquired by the students in advance, and half of the proceeds from the run go to the Böblingen Youth Farm and the Support Association of Children with Cancer Tübingen e.V. According to Stuttgarter News such an event not only increases the sense of community, but also awareness of social issues.
Positive reactions and recognition
The reactions of the donation recipients were consistently positive. Anton Hofmann from the Association of Children with Cancer Tübingen e.V. praised the children's commitment and thanked them for their valuable support. Ulrike Kosian from the youth farm was also pleased with the help that the organizational facilities received. This feedback shows how important such actions are in supporting children and their families in difficult times.
The school did a great job organizing the run. The approach of letting the students look for sponsors in their private environment enabled broad participation and a high willingness to donate. Registering via fundoo, a platform for automated donation processing, was a clever move. After the race, sponsors will receive an email with a link to easily donate. Despite the administrative hurdles, the event shows how simple commitment can achieve a big impact, as Plan International describes.
An integral part of school life?
Based on the experiences of the first fundraising run, the Erich Kästner School is already considering establishing this event as an integral part of the school year in the future. The children were not only actively involved in social engagement, but were also able to learn about important values such as team spirit and responsibility in a playful way.
Overall, it can be said that the Erich Kästner Elementary School fundraising run was not only a great campaign for a good cause, but also a valuable opportunity to teach children the importance of charity and solidarity. Small feet, big impact – in a community spirit that has touched many hearts.
