From Monday there will be a lot of reconstruction work on the A81 near the bridge at the airfield in the direction of Böblingen. Drivers traveling from Sindelfingen to Böblingen have to be prepared for longer traffic jams and waiting times. Rudolf-Diesel-Straße will also be restricted to one lane for several weeks, which could further worsen the traffic situation.
A look at the bigger picture shows: the demolition is part of an extensive project that has been in progress since 2021. The focus is on widening the A81 from two to three lanes, which should be completed by 2027. The costs for this extensive work amount to around 490 million euros. The Böblingen “Elephant Bridge” also becomes a topic. Loud South Courier, part of this bridge will be demolished and replaced with an 850 meter long cover, which should be completed by next summer.
Planned closures and diversions
Drivers have to be prepared for major restrictions, especially in the run-up to Christmas. On the first weekend of Advent, the A81 between Sindelfingen-Ost and Böblingen-Hulb will be completely closed from Friday evening, November 29th, to Monday morning, December 2nd. During this time, traffic will be redirected through Sindelfingen city center. Of course, this closure also falls during the Christmas market in Böblingen, which will further inflame the situation.
