Motor vehicle insurance: More expensive for 730,000 drivers in Baden-Württemberg!

Today is September 2, 2025 and there is news that could affect drivers in Baden-Württemberg and beyond. Today the regional classes for motor vehicle insurance in Baden-Württemberg were recalculated, which has a direct impact on the insurance premiums of hundreds of thousands of vehicle owners. Loud bo.de The General Association of the German Insurance Industry (GDV) has adjusted the classifications for numerous licensing districts.

The adjustments cannot be overlooked. They show how important the regional classes are, as they reflect the damage balance of the respective approval districts. Anyone who is rated worse here may have to dig deep into their pockets. Overall, 12 of 44 registration districts in Baden-Württemberg were rated worse, which affects around 730,000 drivers. These deteriorations are related to both full and partial insurance.

The new classifications in detail

Loud people are particularly affected GDV cities such as Baden-Baden, Stuttgart, Waldshut and the Main-Tauber district. Here, drivers have to expect increasing costs for fully comprehensive insurance. When it comes to partial comprehensive insurance, the districts of Böblingen, Calw and Karlsruhe, among others, were rated worse. Only Lörrach can look forward to an improvement in the partially comprehensive class.

But that's not all. As far as liability insurance is concerned, regional classes are increasing in five districts for around 830,000 people, while six districts are seeing an improvement for around 630,000 insured people. Deteriorations include the Enzkreis and the Rems-Murr district, while the best ratings can be found in the Hohenlohekreis.

The effects of the adjustments

The changes are not without consequences: “Higher risks and more expensive damage inevitably lead to higher classifications in the regional classes,” explains the GDV. This has implications for the entire industry, which is already suffering from rising repair costs. In 2023, the motor vehicle insurance market was broadly based with around 94 companies in Germany. Allianz holds the largest market share in motor vehicle liability insurance with around 10%.

The average annual premiums for motor vehicle liability insurance are currently around 256 euros, while fully comprehensive insurance is around 333 euros and partial comprehensive insurance is around 82 euros. A change in the regional classes can mean a clear difference in financial planning for many vehicle owners. A good hand when comparing tariffs is becoming more important than ever in the current situation.

The regional statistics from the GDV at least provide an overview, but are non-binding for insurers. The changes apply immediately to new contracts and to existing contracts from the coming insurance year, which means that action should be taken in good time to secure the best conditions.
