New country market opens in Ottenbronn: a breath of fresh air for local supplies!
The village shop in Ottenbronn has reopened its doors after being closed for around six weeks. On September 13, 2025, the new operator couple Giovanni and Maria Concetta Franzò from Neuhengstett celebrated the opening under the name “Franzòs Landmarkt”, one weekend earlier than announced. The residents' anticipation was palpable, as the closure of the previous operator had caused great unease in the town.
Mayor Rüdiger Klahm, representatives of the local council and various club members were there right at the opening to welcome the Franzò couple. The community is particularly pleased that the new operators have relied on local providers right from the start. The already well-known shops such as the Nagel bakery and the Kling butcher's shop are back in the range and ensure regional freshness. Klahm encouraged the people of Ottenbronn to actively support the new country market and to shop there.
The Franzòs have prevailed with their concept and are intended to bring a breath of fresh air into local supplies. Giovanni Franzò thanked the community for the trust they had placed in him. In addition to a range for everyday needs, which also includes school supplies, the new operators promise flexibility and a high level of customer orientation. “We will do everything we can to respond to the wishes of our customers,” says Franzò. Before the closure of the previous store, Aysel Gutekunst, who ran the store for ten years, highlighted the important role of the Ladanmarkt and wanted the community to accept the new approach.
Delicacies and freshness for Ottenbronn
The Franzòs Landmarkt is valued not only for its staple foods, but also for its specialties. The offering ranges from fresh baked goods to milk and yoghurt to everyday groceries. The successful reopening comes at a time when local amenities in rural areas are experiencing increasing pressure. A current study by KMU Research Austria shows that smaller communities in particular are struggling with food retailer closures. In Austria, 382 communities are without local suppliers, which affects the quality of life in rural areas.
An average decline in rural supply of up to 20% is an alarming trend that highlights the importance of supporting and sustaining local businesses. “Local supplies are the basic supply in our villages and are crucial for the quality of life,” explains Christian Prauchner, chairman of the Federal Food Trade Committee. The Franzò couple seem to have a good hand and their offer could help to stabilize and revitalize the local supply in Ottenbronn.
Franzòs Landmarkt, located at Wasenstrasse 3, can be reached at 70517678. The opening times offer Ottenbronners generous opportunities to do their shopping: Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. And the best part? The market is wheelchair accessible and offers both a barrier-free entrance and parking options.
In these uncertain times, it is now particularly important for smaller towns like Ottenbronn to support local providers in order to maintain local supplies. It remains to be hoped that the people of Ottenbronn will accept the Franzòs Landmarkt without any problems and visit it regularly.
Further information about this new offer can be found on the Landmarkt website: otenbronner-landmarkt.de. Mayor Klahm hopes that this step will leave a positive aftertaste and bring the village community together. Especially in rural areas, the local grocery store is an important meeting place that strengthens solidarity.
