Wild Wings celebrate 6-1 win against Frankfurt – Bittner and Karachun overlooked!
On Wednesday evening, the Schwenninger Wild Wings caused real fireworks in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) and won against Frankfurt 6-1. The team showed a confident performance and sent a strong signal to the competition. Tylor Spink played his 250th game for the Wild Wings in this match, a reason for celebration for him and the fans.
After the first period, the Wild Wings led with a goal from Danny O'Regan, who scored his third goal of the season (11:36). But it wasn't just individual tactical progress that was crucial - the team dynamics were also right. The second period was synonymous with a shower of goals: Arkadiusz Dziambor increased the score to 2-0 in the 28th minute, followed by O'Regan's first power play goal of the game to make it 3-0 just a minute later.
A decisive victory and personnel decisions
The Wild Wings upped the ante again in the final third. Boaz Bassen made it 4-0, after which Tyson Spink and Alex Karachun added two more goals. Frankfurt was finally able to score a consolation goal through Tim Kose, but the result was clear: 6-1 for Schwenningen. One should also note the disciplined style of play, which resulted in a penalty of 10 minutes for the Wild Wings and 13 minutes for the Frankfurt team, including a game-time penalty for Dennis Lobach after a foul.
However, the reported news for Dominik Bittner and Alexander Karachun does not stop there. Both players were passed over and not selected for the German team in the upcoming Germany Cup. This is unfortunate for their 2026 Olympic ambitions, which are now a long way off. In this context, it should be emphasized that Hendrik Kolbert, the Wild Wings' athletic trainer, has the opportunity to become part of the German staff in Landshut. This could be an excellent opportunity for team development and individual athlete development.
Michael Bitzer on the way to form
Michael Bitzer, who took the place in goal in this game, was able to show his performance as regular goalkeeper Joacim Eriksson was unavailable due to a cold. Bitzer, born on October 23, 1993 in the USA, has developed into a solid goalkeeper in the DEL. His education began at Moorhead High School and led to the professional leagues via Bemidji State University. According to Wikipedia, the German-American has played 15 games in the DEL so far while he is one of the hopefuls for the Wild Wings.
In total, the game brought together 4,771 spectators who were able to enjoy an exciting and thrilling game. The Wild Wings' performance gives us optimism for the challenges ahead and shows the strength of the team, which can exploit its potential despite the personnel shortages.
